On Tuesday, September 23, the Education Committee transformed its standing committee meeting into a riveting learning experience, featuring a panel, mini-resource fair, and interactive opportunities for participants to discuss why “Early Education Matters.” This second installment of the committee’s Quarterly Learning Series included a panel of speakers comprised of Dr. Celia Ayala, CEO, Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP); Dr. Sam Chan, District Chief, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health; and Emily Taylor, Director of Policy and Advocacy, Special Needs Network.

Panelists provided an array of information on:

  • Benefits of early childhood education;
  • Brain development of children 0 to 5 years;
  • Parent engagement strategies; and
  • The importance of early detection and intervention services for children with special needs.
