On Thursday, April 24, 2014, the Empowerment Congress and its founder, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, were honored at the 33rd Annual Pat Brown Institute Awards Dinner, celebrating “The Power of Participation.”
The Empowerment Congress was recognized alongside the Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE), the League of Women Voters Los Angeles (LWVLA), and Univision, all of whom demonstrate the importance of civic engagement and participation by the citizens within their constituencies. The event highlighted some of the work of each organization and featured a panel discussion with Supervisor Ridley-Thomas, Joy Picus (LWVLA), Charlie Woo (CAUSE), and Ivelisse Estrada (Univision), moderated by Warren Olney of Which Way, LA?
