YoBoulevard! focuses on improving public safety, providing after-school and summer enrichment activities, and bringing workforce development opportunities to Atlanta’s Boulevard corridor, home to the highest concentration of poverty in the southeastern United States. This initiative, started in January 2012, has been successful in doubling the number of kids attending summer camps and opening an Atlanta Police Department mini-precinct in the neighborhood. In its second year, YoBoulevard! is looking to deal with obstacles it has faced in getting the major institutional players in the neighborhood engaged in workforce development, and ensuring small businesses are prepared to hire teenagers from the corridor for summer internships.
