This workshop will allow participants to discuss the relationship between the historic efforts to secure voting rights and the broader push for equality, social justice and empowerment. A feature of the workshop will examine current attempts to restrict voting rights and the erode other democratic rights, the significance of 2014 as an election year, as well as the implications of the November 2014 elections on the achievement of social justice, genuine equality and empowerment.
