The purpose of this workshop is to examine how efforts to restore in-patient hospital services at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Medical Center triggered a multi-million dollar investment in community planning, revitalization and job creation.  Panelists will discuss the catalytic nature of the new MLK Community hospital, the MLK Medical Center campus Master Plan, and various other neighborhood improvements.  The role played by community advocacy, citizen participation and mobilization in building healthier communities will be a major focus as well as the impact of public-private partnerships.
