True to the spirit of the Empowerment Congress’ mission to educate, engage, and empower, the Environmental Committee recently co-hosted the inaugural Los Angeles Urban Agriculture Summit at LA Trade Tech College with the Collaborative for Urban Agroecology, LA Food Policy Council, and the LATTC Architecture and Sustainable Design Department.
Over two days, the Summit convened over 150+ urban agriculture stakeholders whom learned, shared, and organized with one another to “grow” LA’s urban farming capacity and infrastructure for collective impact. The summit’s vast array of programming included the social, economic, organizational and ecological properties of urban agriculture with specific emphasis on how to enhance its productivity, stability, sustainability, and equitability.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Supervisor Ridley-Thomas and the entire Empowerment Congress family. If you couldn’t make it out this time, we’re planning some community follow-up events later in the year and are thrilled by the amount of interest in convening another regional summit in March of 2017… So please stay tuned!
