Empowerment Matters:
Building Stronger Communities
On Saturday, January 16, 2016, over 1,100 community residents, stakeholders, County Department heads, clergy, and leaders convened on the campus of the University of Southern California for the 24th Annual Empowerment Congress Summit.
The plenary session focused on the issue of homelessness in the Second Supervisorial District and Los Angeles County, as a whole, featuring presenters such as actress Pauly Perette (NCIS), Dora Leong Gallo (A Community of Friends), and minister and activist Rev. Dr. Cecil Murray.
Eight workshops followed the plenary session, including a youth summit focused on the LA County Parks Needs Assessment, where students expressed their vision for the open spaces in their communities.
