The Empowerment Congress Arts and Culture Committee hosted Art Exhibitions: An Artist’s Toolkit on July 20, 2019 at the Exposition Park Constituent Service and Training Center in Los Angeles, CA. The event offered audience members the opportunity to learn how curators and organizations discover and promote visual art and music while connecting with creatives, curators and aficionados. Empowerment Congress Moderator Mangwi Atia asked panelists a series of questions for artists to walk away with tangible next steps in getting their work showcased in art exhibition programs and music playlists. Panelists included:

  • Tyree Boyd-Pates, Curator of History, California African American Museum
  • Caro Buermann, Curator, Corey Helford Gallery
  • Maya Emsden, Deputy Executive Officer – Metro Art & Design, LA Metro
  • Beto González, Program Associate, Skirball Cultural Center

These influencers provided context on how to effectively meet art submission guidelines, approach curators, foster relationships and improve brand. Thoughtful responses from each speaker prepared attendees to set realistic goals and leverage their network and contacts.
